10 – Catholic Social Teaching: Protecting the Dignity of the Human Person
We are called to protect and promote the dignity of the human person in all places and circumstances, and to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every facet of social life.
According to Catholic teaching, when does human life begin?
At the moment of conception.
According to Catholic teaching, when does human life end?
At the moment of the separation of the body and soul.
Why does the Church not allow Abortion?
Abortion is the deliberate killing of an innocent life. The unborn child is a distinct human being, different from the mother or father, with their own dignity as a unique person made in the Image and Likeness of God.
What does the Church teach about the Death Penalty?
The Death Penalty is only to be used as a last resort, to ensure an evil person does no more harm to innocent life. Even when a person is guilty of murdering others, that person retains their dignity as human being made in the Image and Likeness of God and does not deserve to die just to satisfy our desire for revenge.
