8 – A Love that Lasts:
God’s Plan for Sexuality

In this session, we will be exploring the gift of sex and how the Church’s teachings reveal the truth and beauty of human sexuality as the greatest expression of marital love.

SESSION QUESTIONS

Pope John Paul II taught us the truth of Human Sexuality in his series of biblically based talks called:

Theology of the Body.

Are human beings just another type of animal ruled by our emotions and passions?

No. We are made in the Image and Likeness of God, which means we have an Intellect to discern right from wrong and good from bad; we also have Free-Will to choose to do good and avoid evil. We can control our passions by practicing the virtues.

What virtues should we practice to help us control our sexual desires?

Chastity, Modesty, Countenance, and Fidelity.

Why does the Church say we cannot use Birth Control?

Artificial means of Birth Control, such as condoms, the pill, or other contraceptives are not acceptable in Catholic Moral Teaching because they undermine the unitive and procreative goods of marriage and family life.

How can we regulate the birth of children in a Catholic Marriage?

NFP or Natural Family Planning uses the natural cycle of a woman’s fertility to help plan when engaging in the marital act of sexual intercourse is most or least likely to result in pregnancy.
